So you want to be on the internet, you want to use the internet to make some money, you want to use the internet to tell people about yourself, about your business or your organisation.
You must pick a domain name first, sounds exciting doesn't it. It can be, and probably should be an exciting time, especially after you have made that decision to enter cyberspace and join the millions of people that log on each day. The intent here is to help you with one major decision and that is assisting in the choice of a domain name, a website name.
Choosing the name is most important, even before you decide to do anything. Depending on the purpose of the website name, and what you intend to do with it, would depend on the name you choose. That can be a lot of fun and it can be serious also. The need for a short address and an easy one to remember is important. Website names must be easy to spell. It is a good idea to use the kiss principals as you should always be mindful of that anyway. The web address should be close to the name of your company or the product or service you are selling.
Remember people are looking for information first and don't want to be sold.
Have a look at web sites that are similar to what you want, and are thinking about. Get the domain name you want. Choosing the name is important and should reflect what you are doing or planning to do, remember that.
It should be easy for your friends or your expected clients to find. The name cannot be longer than 63 letters, longer is half a dictionary.
You can add your domain name to your business cards, your brochures, your corporate clothing, your billboard advertising or even your radio and television advertising.
You do have a big choice of names but you might have to think about it for a few days as you shouldn't rush in with just any name or suffix. Be careful of double letters or s or z trying to be smart or creative.
For this exercise I picked the first three words that came into my mind. There are a number of websites that are online by that name, but did not check any of them until I prepared the article. You could choose a combination of a few words best it is not more than three and they must easy to say and spell three wise men... Com could be a good name because the name runs off the tongue easy. Three wise men is easy to say and pronounce.
Oh my god! My name is already registered what I am going to do now? If your preferred name is taken, search for an abbreviation or change the order of words, add your city, your country or come up with something unique, we could use three wise men tutoring using the dot com. We could use three wise men dash tutoring using the dot com. We could use three wise men inc using dot com. We could use three wise men mentoring using dot com. We could use three wise men on line using dot com. But be careful when you do use the same name as already listed with a different suffix you could confuse people. Using three wise men using the Australian suffix dot com dot Australia or using three wise men using the suffix information, you get the message, let's not confuse your client and send them to the wrong address
oh my god! What are those suffixes that we see attached to the website? People often think that .Com is usa based; well it might have been once but no longer the case.
The extensions can mean a lot also, they can tell the type of business or organisation and where it is located.
Have you settled on your name yet, and then maybe it is time to buy it or at least see if it is available. There are many sites that can do this but you also need to look at the site first and see if hosting is available at the right price and can that site give you the service needed.
